Empire + Knit Picks
You can purchase Empire on the Knit Picks Website here.
Last fall I submitted my design idea to Knit Picks for their Form & Function booklet, a pattern collection that was going to focus on the Gansey pullover but with a fun and modern take. The designs in this collection feature beautifully textured pullovers with textured stitches and cables, from pullovers to easy accessories.
My design was relatively simple - a crew neck pullover worked mainly in stockinette stitch with a block of textured stitches for the upper half of the body and upper arms on the sleeves.
Empire is knit in 4 easy pieces and seamed once each piece has been knit and blocked. The front and back are knit from the bottom up starting with a 1x1 ribbed hem that transition to Stockinette stitch before transitioning to the easy textured stitch pattern. The front features an easy crew neck finished with a just as easy roll neck.
The sleeves are also worked from cuff to upper arm with the same mix of Stockinette stitch and textured pattern. The sleeves are then seamed and set in to the comfortable set in arm opening.
The sample was knit with Knit Pick’s Wool of the Andes Sport in Forest Heather. Andes Sport is a classic light weight wool that is perfect for fall & winter knitting. It has great stitch definition and the heather shades have a lovely depth of color that can’t be beat for the price.
You can access through the pattern through the Knit Picks website here. Take a look at the other lovely designs being featured in the From & Function booklet, I dare you to pick just one!
